Jordan Richter Interview

Well, well we have been pretty much under the radar for the last month. Working the regular job and keeping up with the non skate life demanded a bit of time, but hey we are back with the 1st part of the conversation we had with Mr. Jordan Richter.

We got in touch with the man himself via one of the social networks and he agreed to answer some of our questions. The 1st session was a chat and here is the original back and for tipping, typo errors and grammar fuck ups are included:

Let`s start off with the classic Chromeball Incident question: When did you start skating and what was your 1st real board?

Jordan Richter

I started skating in 1984, when I was 10 years old...First board was a G&S board with barbed wire and a wolf on it with indys and rat bones

Where did you live then?

Jordan Richter 

Lived in Cali in Lajolla

Grew up skating Del Mar skate park

F.F.L.

You were mostly skating ramps I reckon, cause that was the shit to do back in the mid 80`s and Del Mar was one of the epicenters for vert skating in Cali.

Who were the guys rocking that place back in the days?

I was a local there every day

How old were you back then?

I have been fortunate to skate with a solid mixed of the best

It help me build me up to be where I am today ./...I am thankful to them all

I was 10-13yrs

Skating every day Del Mar with those legends led you to your 1st sponsorship then or was it that you entered one of thei am contests?

Jordan Richter

I enter lots of Am contest

You got sponsored then by who?

First sponsor was Santa Cruz

But Dog town was giving me boards for a while

when was that?

and Adrian Demain flowed me boards from Powell

Have you been on Speed Wheels aswell,`cause I think I remeber an add with you?

nope no speed wheels

so there we see that memeories are somtimes a blurr

Come to think of it maybe i was on Speed wheels

I am fortunate i didnt fall into all the crap that my frerinds did...Drugs etc...

I only caught a little of that mess so the memory is fairly good

How you got on blind wasn`t that like 1990?

Jordan Richter

yea 1991

Danny Way called Rocco or Gonz i dont remeber

Buit he basically put a word in for me and then they were for it

Ahh yeah D.Way was riding for them back then

so wehn you got on in 1991 you were there just a supershor time, but you still had a section in the famous Video DAYS

How long did you film for your part?

Jordan Richter

I film like 8ntimes for that part really not much bro ]

Back to the video days did you know that Jake Phelps was taking the word for your part at the "Evening of the skatevideos"?

Jordan Richter

I heard something like that

(after a lengthy conversation regarding blind's Video Days at the MOMA's "Evening of Skate Videos")

Jake Phelps: "...and don't forget Jordan Richter!"

(crowd snickers)

Jake Phelps: "Don't laugh. How many of you can do 5ft nollie shuffles on vert?"

(crowd immediately shuts up)

Yea Jake is alright

i really dont care what anyone thinks about me though I am very cointent with who I am and what i stand for...I try not to think about other peoples view of me...As long as I am doing the right thing I dont mind the haters

i have always been defirent and caught alot of hell for that

I reckon it was not all fun back then. There is a story floating around, that you have been in SF with the plan b heads and that you guys watched Video Days together, but they editted out your part. Is that true?

Yea

Its true

I think they just laughed

Jordan Richter on the June 1991 Transworld Cover

So this was the 1st part of the "My War" conversation. In fact it took another month before I got back in touch with the him. Computer breakdowns, sickness, work and all kind of other stuff led to the delay. If I would have nown that I would have said: " Talk to you a lot later" hahaha, in the end you are always wiser. 

2nd part of the interview was a proper skype conversation wich is almost finished to be transcriped and it`s a good one!!!
